Investing in hydrogen is a great idea for people who want to build a sustainable future. It is the only chemical element that does not emit greenhouse gases or pollution are the major problems facing the world now. They have become an increasing concern for governments, businesses, and individuals alike.

What is hydrogen ?

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and also the most abundant element on Earth. It can be found in water as well as other sources like fossil fuels. Hydrogen has been used as a fuel for centuries and it is expected to play an important role in our future energy system.

Hydrogen is used to produce electricity and heat, as well as to create chemical energy for industry. Hydrogen also has many other uses, such as in rocket fuel, welding, petroleum refining, petrochemicals production, and ammonia production.

Hydrogen gas can be produced by breaking down water with a strong chemical reaction or by using electric current on an electrolyte solution of saltwater (brine).

What is green hydrogen and how is it obtained?

Morocco’s Green hydrogen is a fuel that can be used to power transportation. It is a clean and renewable energy source.

The morocco green hydrogen can be obtained through the following three methods:

  • Electrolysis: Electrons are transferred from an external source to the water molecule
  • which breaks it down into its component parts - hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxideions (OH-).
  • Photoelectrochemical oxidation: Sunlight is used to break down
  • The hydrogen gas molecules are then compressed and stored in tanks to be used later as a fuel for vehicles, generators, or other purposes.

Why is Morocco Such a Great Place to Start a Renewable Energy Revolution?

First because Morocco has a lot of solar and wind power, which makes it the perfect place for green hydrogen production. The country’s renewable energy mix is around 60% solar, wind and geothermal. Morocco is well-known as the first country to commit to a transition towards 100% renewable energy. In Dakhla, one of the most important economical cities in Morocco, hydrogen for fuel cells was produced from wind power by using an electrolyser.

Morocco has a lot of potential to be the world’s leading producer of solar energy. The country is already the world’s top producer of wind power, and it plans to increase its production of solar energy tenfold by 2020.

Morocco is the first African country to set up a renewable energy agency. Morocco’s Vision 2020 is a “green growth” strategy that aims to make the economy more sustainable and less dependent on fossil fuels. The Moroccan government has invested heavily in green technology, as well as in training people in skills related to renewable energy.

The Moroccan government has invested heavily in green technology, as well as in training people in skills related to renewable energy.
  • The International and Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said in its latest report that Morocco is expected to have the third-lowest green hydrogen production cost in 2050, between about $0.7/kg hydrogen and $1.4/kg hydrogen.Morocco is one of the countries that has the most potential to be a leader in hydrogen energy.
  • Morocco’s installed renewable energy capacity and its plans to increase its share of the energy mix to 80% by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45.5% by 2030 reflect the country’s accelerated transition to green and net energy aspirations – to reach zero by 2050 – an internationally agreed date.
